May Roundup
May is by far one of the sneakiest months of the year. Look the other way for just a moment, and when you look back, it’s gone. Multitudes of birthdays, weddings, graduations, and other social events quickly fill the calendar, and before you know it, you’re dazed and wondering when your work will get done. But God is just as faithful during the months that speed by as He is in the slow, droll ones.
Life
My birthday was on May 2nd, my last one ever! (I turned 29, the age women tell you with a wink when you ask how old they are.) I enjoyed a trip to the big city with a friend a few days prior, and relished a slow, quiet day at home the day of. We celebrated my birthday, my sister-in-law’s 26th, my youngest cousin’s sweet 16, a little friend’s 8th, and my mother’s 29th ;) Like I said, lots of birthdays!
My cousin from Texas came to visit, and we talked, laughed, and then yapped some more. I confidently put her on my bareback horse, and she fell off, cementing her disdain for horses (oops).
On the 31st, we had a kind of rom-com-esque day where we attended two weddings back-to-back. I love wedding mints, so I wasn’t complaining.
Ranching
We moved my parents’ bulls closer to home (meaning, our houses and the main corral), and we went to a relative’s branding. I roped two calves, which is down from my record of three, but I blame the 40mph winds.
We got an incredible amount of rain in May. No gullywashers yet, but a couple of slow, 1” rains that really helped the grass out.
Ministry
We wrapped up youth group for the school year on May 7th. The week before it ended, I spoke on Psalm 1 and tied it in with Jesus’s statements on life, living water, and abiding in Him as the vine. The takeaway? Choosing the path of Jesus leads to life, and spending a flourishing life with Jesus is the wisest thing you can do.
Theology on the Prairie
Had the absolute honor of hosting Kylee Logan as May’s guest writer. If you missed it, Kylee wrote about imaginative prayer and how it’s a way to really tune in and spend some quality time in the presence of Jesus.
This month I wrote about how studying the Bible should always be through the lens of Christ and His redemptive work:
Through the Lens of Christ
We all approach the Bible with biases and agendas. Sometimes, we might look for stories of women who accomplished great things or follow threads of social justice. Other times, we might use the Bible to help us navigate a moral conundrum. It’s not wrong to read and interpret Scripture through these lenses; in fact, the process of doing this is called “h…
How God’s common grace should inspire us to extend unparalleled love and grace to others:
Love and Grace for All
It’s raining cats and dogs here today. Those living on the coasts might groan over a spring day ruined by precipitation, but here on the prairies, we rejoice over a full day of steady moisture. If you’ve ever attended a church in an agricultural area, you will always hear, “Praise God for the rain!” on the following Sunday. However, it’s not just those …
And Christ’s role as prophet and what that means for us:
Christology: Christ as Prophet
You’re probably most familiar with Jesus Christ’s role as Savior, but did you know He holds three other offices as well?
That’s All, Folks
